WATCH: Aldi Spoof John Lewis’ ‘Man On The Moon’ Christmas Advert

Every year, big companies compete against eachother in a bid to deliver the best, and most emotional, Christmas advert that the UK has ever seen.

Sainsburys and John Lewis have become the renowned supremos of the festive battle, with this year’s John Lewis ad moving the Nation to tears as they told the story of ‘the man on the moon’.

In case you have somehow managed to miss the phenomena, the ad shows a lonely old man crying when a little girl surprises him with a Christmas present, reminding him that he isn’t alone after all.

Now, budget supermarket, Aldi, have created their own version of the ad, spoofing the man on the moon as they promote their low prices.

Choosing between two telescopes, an old man who is sitting by himself on the moon says the company’s slogan to the camera: “I like this one”, he says about a John Lewis telescope as the £109.95 price tag appears on screen.

“And I like this one,” he adds about the Aldi version, which costs just £69.99.

Then Jean Joans, the Aldi granny who has starred in previous adverts for the supermarket, comes floating towards him on an armchair that has been tied to balloons, and the old man exclaims: “But I’m over the moon with this one!”

Speaking about his decision to spoof the John Lewis ad, Jonathan Neale, the managing director for Aldi, told The Mirror: “Jean quickly became a national treasure for her love of our Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin when she first appeared on screens in 2011.

“We’re confident our customers will be excited by her return this Christmas.

“Our latest advert highlights Aldi’s ongoing commitment to offering high quality products at unbeatable prices that shoppers will be over the moon with.”

Well, it’s definitely a new take on the annual Christmas battle, we’ll give him that…
