Watch: 'Knuckles' trailer introduces 'Sonic' spinoff series
Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Paramount+ is giving a glimpse of the new show Knuckles.
The streaming service shared a trailer for the live-action and animated series Thursday featuring Idris Elba.
Knuckles is a spinoff of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series. The TV and film franchise is based on the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games by Sega.
Elba reprises his role as Knuckles the Echidna, a sidekick of Sonic the Hedgehog. Returning stars also include Adam Pally as deputy sheriff Wade Whipple, Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles "Tails" Prower.
Knuckles takes place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
The trailer shows Knuckles (Elba) take on Wade (Pally) as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior. The pair face off with a villainous former Robotnik employee, played by Rory McCann.
The cast also includes Tika Sumpter, Stockard Channing, Edi Patterson, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Julian Barratt, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel.
Knuckles is created by Sonic the Hedgehog 2 writer John Whittington and Toby Ascher. The series will consist of six episodes and premiere April 26.
Paramount+ will release a new TV spot trailer for the show Sunday during the Super Bowl LVIII pregame broadcast and the alternate telecast of the game on Nickelodeon.
