The release date of the hotly anticipated second season of Amazon Prime’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been revealed. Alongside the upcoming launch date, the franchaise gave fans a glimpse as the first trailer for series two is now out.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Prime Video on Thursday, August 29, as revealed today (May 14). Its action-packed trailer takes a look at the rise of the villain during Middle-earth’s Second Age.

Sauron (Charlie Vickers) disguises himself as an elf to help out Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) in the forging of the titular rings of power. Viewers will also see familiar faces return, preparing themselves for battle.

These include Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and Isildur (Maxim Baldry). Season two began filming back in 2022 in the UK, unlike the first series which was shot in New Zealand.

The trailer also shows a character, known as the Stranger, (Daniel Weyman), wielding a wooden staff. During season one's finale, the character was revealed to be one of the wizards, known as the Istari, who later populate Middle-earth.

The show’s official X account shared the first trailer, much to the delight of fans. The account wrote: “Darkness will bind them. The Rings Of Power returns August 29 on @PrimeVideo.”

It has already been viewed over one million times. RetailStock replied: “Put it in theatres!! Please!” Tolkienverse comented: “Can't wait for august, 29th.” PCP wrote: “BACK TO MIDDLE EARTH WE GOOOO.” EliasXx said: “This looks awesome!!! Really looking forward to it!”
