Watch: 'Mary & George' gets trailer, April premiere date
Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Mary & George is coming to Starz in April.
The network shared a trailer and premiere date, April 5, for the historical drama series Thursday.
Mary & George is based on the Benjamin Woolley book The King's Assassin and stars Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine.
The show is inspired by the true story of Mary Villiers (Moore), Countess of Buckingham, and her son George Villiers (Galitzine), "who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of King James I."
In 17th century England, Mary guided George to seduce King James (Tony Curran) and "become his all-powerful lover."
"Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become one of the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King's most trusted advisors," an official synopsis reads.
The cast also includes Nicola Walker, Niamh Algar, Trine Dyrholm, Sean Gilder, Adrian Rawlins, Mark O'Halloran, Laurie Davidson, Samuel Blenkin and Jacob McCarthy.
Mary & George is written by D.C. Moore (Killing Eve) and directed by Oliver Hermanus, with Moore, D.C. Moore, Hermanus and Liza Marshall as executive producers.
The series will premiere April 5 at midnight on the Starz app and at 9 p.m. EST on Starz.
Moore will also star in the upcoming film The Room Next Door, directed by Pedro Almodóvar.
