A BOY who survived a 60ft fall from Old Harry Rocks with only minor injuries has been deemed a ‘miracle’ by emergency services.

Both of Swanage’s lifeboats rushed to join the multi-emergency response team after reports of a boy falling from the cliff at 1.45pm on Thursday, June 20.

It has been reported that the boy was 15-years-old and on a school trip from London, but emergency services are unable to confirm this.

The RNLI have shared footage of the lifeboat being the first to arrive on the scene, with the casualty being found at the base of the cliff on the Studland side of Handfast Point close to Old Harry Rocks.

A casualty care trained crew member was put ashore to assess the boy to determine the best way to get him to safety.

The boy was miraculously left with limited injuries with just a few cuts and grazes.

He was taken on the inshore lifeboat before being transferred to the all-weather lifeboat for a more thorough examination on the way to Knoll Beach.

Once at the beach, the boy was handed over to volunteers from the Swanage Coastguard and a team from South Western Ambulance service.

A spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard coordinated the response to a report of concern about a boy at the foot of the cliff at Old Harry Rocks.

“The alarm was raised at about 1.45pm on 20 June.

“The boy was recovered from the beach by the RNLI's inshore lifeboat from Swanage and passed into the care of South West Ambulance Service.

“Swanage Coastguard Rescue Team also attended.”

Purbeck police posted on its social media: “The Swanage team were in Studland yesterday assisting Coastguard with an incident.

“A young male slipped and fell down the cliff at Old Harry Rocks.

“They were picked up by the Swanage RNLI who took them ashore on Knoll Beach.

“Miraculously the person only suffered very minor injuries.”
