Yahoo News Watch How Whoopi Goldberg Reacts After She Accidentally Says Trump's Name
Whoopi Goldberg had a crowd-pleasing reaction after she inadvertently said Donald Trump’s name during Tuesday’s episode of “The View.”
Goldberg has long avoided mentioning Trump’s name in conjunction with the word “president.” She told CNN’s David Axelrod in 2018 that she knows that “people don’t like that I don’t do it ― I’m fine with that.”
But she did say the former president’s name on Tuesday’s show ― a slipup that she blamed on co-host Joy Behar.
The dreaded name-drop occurred during a discussion about Thursday’s presidential debate between Trump, the presumptive 2024 GOP nominee, and President Joe Biden.
Goldberg was trying to discuss the differences between the two candidates without using a certain word that rhymes with “grump”:
Goldberg: “I think it would be remiss of us to not say Joe Biden knows how to do this. He knows how to do this. He’s quite good at this. And, you know, you can’t refute anything with him because he just — when I say ‘him,’ I mean...”
Behar: “He rambles. Trump.”
Goldberg agreed: “Trump. He tends to just ―” before realizing the error of her ways.
“Ugh,” she said, before pretending to spit on the floor in disgust, prompting much delight from the studio audience.
Co-host Sunny Hostin was the first to realize Goldberg’s mistake.
“Did you say his name?” she asked.
“I said his name,” Goldberg acknowledged. “It was a trick, and it made me do it. But I’m just saying that Biden knows what not to do. You can’t refute that man, because he just spins and spins and spins.”

Although Goldberg typically avoids saying Trump’s name on “The View,” Entertainment Weekly notes that she broke her pledge in May when she made a rare Friday appearance on the show to discuss the former president’s 34 convictions from his hush money trial.
“Do not adjust your TV set. Yes, I’m here on a Friday because this is a very unique moment in history. That’s why we’re all at the table,” Goldberg said. “I’m going to say something you’ve never ever heard me say before: Donald John Trump is a convicted felon.”
