Watchmen’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen ll to Lead Man on Fire Adaptation for Netflix

Watchmen Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen ll is set to headline Man on Fire, Netflix’s series adaptation of the A.J. Quinnell book series.

Taking on the character previously played by Denzel Washington in Tony Scott’s 2004 film of the same name, Abdul-Mateen II will star as John Creasy, a onetime high-functioning and skilled Special Forces mercenary who now is plagued with intense PTSD.

“Determined to overcome his personal demons,” Creasy “sets out on a path to redemption,” the synopsis reads. “But, before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.”

In addition to his award-winning turn as Watchmen‘s Cal Abar, Abdul-Mateen’s previous TV credits include Prime Video’s The Get Down, episodes of Black Mirror and The Handmaid’s Tale, and Marvel/Disney+’s upcoming Wonder Man series.

Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II) will direct Man on Fire‘s first two episodes of eight, and also serve as an executive producer alongside writer/showrunner Kyle Killen (Fear Street).

Other EPs on the series include star Abdul-Mateen II, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Scott Pennington, Ed McDonnell, Michael Polaire and Stacy Perskie.
