Summer has finally arrived in Manchester with highs of up to 25C forecast for this week and lots of sunshine on the cards. As we bask in the heat, you may find yourself longing to be by the water.

Luckily you don’t have to travel far to find a tranquil waterside spot and there’s one right here in Greater Manchester with lots of activities to do on a sunny day. Sale Water Park offers everything from paddle boarding to kayaking, all handily located within the M60.

It’s where you’ll find Trafford Water Sports Centre, which provides lessons for all manner of water-based activities. You can have a go at canoeing, try sailing, or test your balance with stand-up paddle boarding.

There’s an option to hire out vessels, such as kayaks and canoes, so you’ve got the freedom to do your own thing if you don't want to have a lesson. You can also launch your own vessel if you have one - but you need to book in advance.

For those who really want to cool off, Open Swim offers slots for swimmers and lessons so you can try open water swimming. It’s important to note that Swimming at Sale Water Park is only permitted at specific sessions.

It’s even nice just to have a wander around the edge of the water; there are flat paths encircling it so it’s a lovely spot for a stroll. For a longer walk, pick up the River Mersey and head into Chorlton Ees Nature Reserve, and if you’re really up for a challenge walk over to Chorlton Water Park.

There’s a couple of places to grab a bite to eat and a drink at Sale Water Park, including Tree Tops Cafe and The Boathouse Restaurant. Sale Water Park Main Car Park (M33 2NJ) offers free parking and there’s a tram stop nearby served by the navy line.
