Former Waterloo Road star Katie Griffiths is expecting a baby with husband Matthew Wardle.

Taking to Instagram to announce the happy news, Griffiths shared a picture of her growing baby bump alongside the caption: "Baby Wardle coming May 2024".

The post also features a sweet photo of the couple's pet dog, who is sitting next to a book with a specially-made custom cover titled "How to still get treats when the humans are having a baby" and "May 2024" printed on the book cover spine.

Griffiths has since received many congratulations in the comments, with fellow Waterloo Road actor Angela Griffin (Kim Campbell) writing: "That is absolutely amazingly, beautifully gorgeous news! Best Christmas pressie ever."

Sonia Ibrahim, who plays Jamilah Omar on the BBC soap, added: "Amazing news – massive congratulations beautiful".

Griffiths, best known for portraying Chlo Grainger, got engaged to Wardle in June last year during a trip to Venice.

The couple then tied the knot in July of this year, with Griffiths sharing on Instagram: "The perfect day. Happy to now confirm I am married to the love of my life."

Griffiths starred on Waterloo Road between 2006 and 2009, before reprising the role of Chlo in the rebooted series earlier this year.

However, Chlo was shockingly killed off in the first episode of the reboot, leaving her husband Donte devastated.

Discussing what it was like to come back for one episode only, Griffiths said: "It's been hard because there's been a lot of excitement for the show, but I think that was the overriding thing, the excitement for the show coming back because it holds a special place in my heart."

Waterloo Road airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
