Wayne Rooney has been spotted at a Devon pub quiz. As the former Manchester United legend settles into his new role as head coach of Plymouth Argyle, he's taking the time to familiarise himself with the city.

Rooney, who holds the record for most goals scored at Man U, will be overseeing his first training session with the Pilgrims this Wednesday. The team is gearing up for a pre-season trip to Marbella on Spain's Costa del Sol shortly after.

Having recently left his punditry position at Euro 2024 in Germany with the BBC, Rooney is now fully focused on preparing Argyle for the upcoming 2024/25 Championship season.

Despite his status as one of England's most celebrated footballers, Rooney has expressed his willingness to engage with fans around Plymouth. His approachability was on display when he visited the Seco Lounge cafe bar at the Royal William Yard and happily posed for a photograph with quizmaster Chun during the Monday night quiz.

The photo made its way onto Facebook with the caption: "It's only Wayne Roooneeey crashing our Monday night quiz! ! There's no escaping the footy madness even for our quizmaster Chun! ", reports Plymouth Live.

Due to significant upgrades being made to Home Park, including a new high-tech pitch, Argyle fans won't have the chance to watch any pre-season matches at their home ground this year.

The 38 year old will have to bide his time until the Carabao Cup first round tie against Cheltenham Town, scheduled for the week commencing August 12, for his inaugural match at the Theatre of Greens as Argyle's head coach.

However, before this, they are set to face off in away pre-season matches against Cheltenham Town on July 20, Torquay United on July 27, Bristol Rovers on July 30 and MK Dons on August 3. They will also be playing against South African team Orlando Pirates during their Spanish tour.

Rooney has enlisted Pete Shuttleworth as his assistant head coach, reuniting the pair who previously worked together at Derby County, DC United in the USA and Birmingham City.
