A plume hitting France looks set to spill over into parts of the UK. Brits could be seeing balmy temperatures later this month, with the south of England set to have the best weather.

Weather maps from Netweather indicate sweltering conditions will be felt in Europe on Friday, May 31. Near Biarritz, in the south west of France, the mercury is likely to hit 30 degrees.

The warm weather will then bolster temperatures in Britain, pushing them above 20C in some areas. The south coast and south east of England are expected to see highs into the 20s.

Charts also show northern England, Wales, Northern Ireland and even the far north of Scotland will see warm conditions, Express reports. A Met Office spokesperson said temperatures were likely to 'be a little above average' for the period running up to May 31.

They said: "Over the bank holiday weekend, a band of rain is likely to arrive from the west, becoming weaker as it moves east and becoming more showery in nature with scattered showers also following. Into the new week, increasingly settled conditions are more likely for most, though rain may threaten north-western areas whilst some southern or eastern areas occasionally less settled with showers more likely later in the period though there will be some sunshine between them, the best of this in south-western parts.

"Temperatures are likely to be a little above average, but some large spatial differences are likely." The warm blast of air could give families a nice end to half-term as it is looking bright for most of the UK.

According to the Met Office, May has daytime highs averaging around 14.7C for the month in the UK as a whole. In England, the corresponding figure is 15.8C and on the south coast figures are much higher than that.
