Weather warning: thunderstorms to hit Oxfordshire towns

Parts of Oxfordshire are set to be hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon, with yellow level warnings issued by the Met Office.

Towns and villages likely to be affected include Abingdon, Watlington, Thame and Henley as storms travel across the south-east.

The weather warning applies from noon today until 11.39pm.

The Met Office has warned that heavy rain and thunderstorms may lead to some disruption.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures," a Met Office statement said.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds."
