New wedding and events venue set to launch as bookings flood in

Two entrepreneurs are teaming up to launch a new 'unique' wedding venue. The first stage of Cheshire's newest wedding and events space in Hassall, Sandbach, is set for completion at the beginning of May.

Aptly named 'The Cheshire Venue', it is intended to build on the success of Teddie’s Barn - a converted barn which has been available to hire for private events since the beginning of 2024. The barn is currently undergoing further renovations to open up additional event space, with more developments planned for on-site accommodation through the renovation of the old school house.

The outside space will also be available for tipis and stretch tents to be erected, making it a truly multi-functional events venue able to accommodate events from 30 people right through to 300. The project is a collaboration between Judy Colclough, owner of both the site itself that includes Teddie’s Barn, and Lucy Gill who runs the catering firm 'Oh So Sweet Grazing and Event Hire'.

"I’ve been working towards the goal of running my own events venue since I Iaunched my catering business almost three years ago," said Lucy. "Having held lots of successful events at Teddie’s Barn including most recently a Peter Rabbit themed picnic at Easter which was a real hit, I knew that that was a place that had real potential for holding even more types of events.

"When I approached Judy with an idea to hold wedding receptions at the venue, she suggested that I should take a look at the upstairs space at Teddie’s Barn, the gardens, as well as the adjoining field and house which could offer even more opportunities. It was perfect and the fact that Judy had already started to put plans in place to revamp the venue further, it was obvious that we were sharing a very similar vision.

"With my experience in hospitality and connections to suppliers we began to discuss how we could build upon what she had already achieved with Teddie’s Barn. The plans that we now have in place to develop the site further mean that we will be able to offer people a unique space where they have so many different options available to them to host their wedding or event exactly as they want it.

"I’m particularly excited about the outdoor space that will be on offer which people can incorporate into their plans through having tipis and stretch tents on site which will be a great addition to the converted barn. There is already been quite a buzz about the new venue with a number of confirmed bookings already having been taken for this year."

Lucy will head up the day-to-day operations of the venue and has already brought together a number of local suppliers who will provide all of the finishing touches to any event. It is intended that the venue will play host to all types of events from weddings, parties to corporate and community events.

Judy is the site owner and has been instrumental in the redevelopment of the site. She said: "When my husband and I purchased School Farm in 2023, not only did it provide an addition to our existing adjoining dairy farm, but it also came with the benefit of having barns, the house and gardens, which my husband John had asked me to manage.

"I knew that there was an opportunity to do something just that little bit different with the site beyond keeping it just as a farm. Redeveloping one of the old barns and creating Teddie’s Barn really was the first step towards doing this. Having worked with Lucy on several events I knew that her expertise and knowledge of the wedding and events industry would make her the right person to drive this project forward and as we both come from working in the airline industry, I felt that we both have instilled in us a real passion for hospitality and exceptional customer service.

"It’s important to me that The Cheshire Venue offers a place for everyone particularly the local community who I hope will make use of it for their own events. I also want to see it become a destination venue that will help to bring people into the area that will benefit other local businesses too."

The Cheshire Venue is holding an open weekend on May 11 and 12 for people to come along and view the venue for themselves. To celebrate the launch of the venue there is a competition in place for people to win their event or wedding worth over £6,500. Full details are available on the venue’s social media channels.
