A wee drop of alcohol? Danish brewers make beer from human URINE
An ice cold beer can be the perfect thirst-quencher on a hot summer day.
However, if you found out that it was made out of human URINE, you would be forgiven for opting to stick with a lemonade.
If you are feeling brave, though, then you could cool down with a ‘Pisner’, which is indeed made out of wee.
The bizarre brew was developed by Danish microbrewery Nørrebro Bryghus, who collected 50,000 litres of urine from music fans at the Roskilde Music Festival in 2015.
They ten used it to brew around 60,000 bottles of the organic beer.
Fortunately, the drink isn’t quite as disgusting as it sounds as the urine is only used to fertilise the malting barley, replacing other traditional growth aids like animal manure.

Norrebro Bryghus chief executive Henrik Vang said: “When the news that we had started brewing the Pisner came out, a lot of people thought we were filtering the urine to put it directly in the beer and we had a good laugh about that.”
The idea for PIsner came after Denmark’s Agriculture and Food Council urged brewers to explore new ways for “beercycling” in the drink-making process.
