Wells and Mendip Hills General Election results in full with Lib Dem win

Voters in Wells and Mendip Hills have elected their new MP - and it is a Liberal Democrat winConservative MP James Heappey has held the old Wells seat since 2015, but the new Wells constituency bears little resemblance to the current one.

The Liberal Democrats were forecast to take the seat by pollsters - and they were proven right as Lib Dem candidate Tessa Munt has won the Wells and Mendip Hills seat.

The new constituency includes Axbridge, Cheddar, Shepton Mallet and Wells itself, the new constituency loses the coastal towns of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge to the new Bridgwater seat. Interestingly, the new constituency also includes Yatton and other settlements which currently form the eastern part of the Weston-super-Mare seat held by John Penrose since 2005.
