Yahoo News Wendy's confirms opening date for first Teesside restaurant - and there's just days to go
The opening date for Teesside's first Wendy's restaurant has finally been revealed - and there’s not long to wait.
The American fast food chain is set to open a new restaurant in the former Thomas the Baker building at Captain Cook Square, in Middlesbrough , on Thursday, May 16. Doors will open at 10.30am and will be serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, including the Baconator, Dave’s Single, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich and of course the Frosty dessert (in chocolate and vanilla).
Works have been underway in recent months to transform the unit, with pictures taken last week showing teams working away on the sleek interior while the chain's logo takes centre stage above the doors. Best known for its square burgers, Wendy's, which landed in the UK back in 2021, first announced it would be moving into the complex last September.

Captain Cook Square remains in the midst of a major regeneration project after Middlesbrough Council bought the site in 2020. Go-karting venue Level X has already opened up - with a boutique cinema and restaurant concept Bazaar both set to open in the future.

Wendy’s Middlesbrough will open from Monday to Thursday 7am until 10m, Friday and Saturday 7am until 11pm and on Sundays 8am until 10pm.
A Wendy's spokesperson added: "As a special treat to the 'Wendy's Super Fans' in Middlesbrough, we will be offering FREE FOOD or MERCH FOR EVERYONE IN THE QUEUE BEFORE THE DOORS OPEN! In our recent restaurant openings, this has seen fans camp out through the night to claim this amazing prize! Everyone who visits on the day will have the chance to win amazing prizes too – including a limited-edition iconic Wendy’s Varsity Jacket."
