Wesley Snipes snarks about Marvel’s “Blade” reboot: 'Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they'

The upcoming MCU movie lost its second director earlier this month.

Wesley Snipes is playfully throwing shade at the Marvel Cinematic Universe amid reports of further Blade reboot delays.

The 61-year-old actor, who played the titular vampire hunter throughout the original film trilogy, is clearly staying up to date on the latest news from the MCU. Following the announcement that the film has lost its director for the second time, Snipes didn’t hesitate to get snarky on social media.

"Blade, lordylordylordy,” Snipes wrote Saturday on X (formerly Twitter). “Folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough.”

He joked, “Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they?”

Blade, a.k.a. Eric Brooks is a half-vampire vampire hunter with the ability to walk in the daylight thanks to his human side. Snipes starred as the character in 1998’s Blade, 2002’s Blade II, and 2004’s Blade Trinity, three R-rated films that leaned into the horror side of Marvel comics.

Earlier this month, Entertainment Weekly confirmed the departure of filmmaker Yann Demange (White Boy Rick, Lovecraft Country) who was previously signed on to direct the vampire superhero project. Demange’s exit came after a string of behind-the-scenes changes that have been announced since the project was first unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019.

The reboot, which is set to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali, was originally announced with Mogul Mowgli filmmaker Bassam Tariq in the director’s chair and a Nov. 3, 2023 release date. Tariq exited directing duties in September 2022, stating on Instagram that he’s “eager to support and see how the next director builds on the foundation” that he helped set and will remain on the project as an executive producer. Marvel told EW that his departure was "due to continued shifts in our production schedule” at the time.

By the time Demange joined the project in November 2022, the film had already been delayed to a Sept. 6, 2024, release date. It was pushed back again in the wake of the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, landing on Feb. 14, 2025 — and it then moved once more to Nov. 7, 2025, which remains its current projected release date.

Several writers have also shuffled in and out of the project, beginning with Watchmen alum Stacy Osei-Kuffour, who was first hired to write the film in February 2021. By the time the first director departure was announced in September 2022, THR reported that Blade had gone through several rounds of rewrites, with Beau DeMayo (who recently departed Marvel’s X-Men ‘97) to handle a new draft. When They See Us writer Michael Starburry came aboard next, before True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto was announced as an additional scribe on the project. The revolving door of writers continued with Variety reporting in November 2023 that Logan writer Michael Green had been tapped to rewrite the screenplay.

Now, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson is set to write the latest version of the movie. Pearson is also attached to write Marvel's forthcoming Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four.

As for Snipes’ feelings on Blade getting the reboot treatment, the actor made it clear in 2019 that he is “all good” with the decision.

"To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx,” he said in a statement provided to EW. “Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL GOOD. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan. Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come.”

He added, “I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.”

Blade is set to debut in theaters on Nov. 7, 2025.
