West Lothian issued 'small danger to life' warning ahead of thunderstorms

Parts of West Lothian have been issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms after locals have been enjoying a warm spell.

While locals have been enjoying toasty temperatures reaching 22C, thunderstorms are set to hit parts of West Lothian, including Armadale and Livingston.

Thunderstorms have been forecasted for Sunday, May 12, with a yellow warning in place from 2pm on until 4am on Monday.

This comes after much of Scotland has lapped up the sunny weather after a wet start to Spring. Locals have flocked to Portobello beach and the Meadows in Edinburgh, a popular spot for many when the sun is out.

The Met Office has warned that the coming thunderstorms and heavy rain could lead to travel disruption and isolated property flooding.

The weather experts said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to some disruption in places, especially to travel. Isolated property flooding is possible."

They add: "Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads. Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services. There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."
