West Lothian Veterans and public urged to support Commemorate D-Day 80th event

The Ancre Somme Association Scotland Charity are seeking veterans and public support to Commemorate D-Day 80th.

ASA Scotland Chairman Councillor Harry Cartmill will host the event.

Bob Kemp CBE is a special guest along with Whitburn Brass Band, singers and a Paratrooper will land in Bathgate Regal Theatre on Thursday June 6, starting at 7pm.

Chairman and Local Councillor Harry Cartmill said: “D-Day was a time in history that we should never ever forget.

“We must teach our Armed Forces heritage in schools, freedom is not free, if we don’t remember the past, we will have no future”

“We have invited schools to take part and the cadet forces, we would welcome any Veterans and the wider public to this night to remember the generation that secured our freedom 80 years ago”

“There will also be a special tribute to Piper Bill Millin who played 'Highland Laddie', 'The Road to the Isles' and 'All The Blue Bonnets Are Over The Border' as his comrades fell around him on Sword Beach.

"Millin stated that he later talked to captured German snipers who claimed they did not shoot at him because they thought he had gone mad”

Tickets can be booked via Bathgate Regal Theatre website.
