Wetherspoons patrons are well-versed in what to expect from their visits.

The affordable pub, known for its budget-friendly pints, is a staple on many UK high streets. However, over time, customers have occasionally been taken aback by the unexpected appearance of a red plate.

This unusual occurrence has sparked enough curiosity that some have turned to social media platforms like Reddit to voice their bewilderment. Regulars, who are more familiar with the classic blue plates, have openly speculated about the significance of the red plate's presence.

A recent post in the 'mildly interesting' subreddit featured an image of the elusive red plate with the caption: "My BF got a red plate in Wetherspoons." The post prompted a flurry of responses and theories, reports the Daily Star.

One user humorously suggested: "If you get the red plate in Spoons, take it to the bar and you get a free drink,".

Another simply posted alarm emojis and said: "YOU GOT THE RED PLATE." A third was surprised, noting, "Never seen a red one before."

The mystery of the red plate has been a recurring topic on Reddit over the years. In another discussion, a user recalled, how 'red plates definitely existed at one point'.

An intrigued Reddit member shared their own photo of the red plate, asking the community: "Any of you ever seen a red spoons plate? Never saw one while I was working there."

To which someone replied, "I think you've accidentally wandered into an alternative dimension." One person added: "Are you their millionth customer? ".

Another added: "You found a shiny,". However, the Daily Star has managed to unravel the mystery.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons said: "Wetherspoon did trial a red plate in a small number of pubs for use for children's meals, to ensure all children's meals were served on a cold plate."

"The company has moved on since then and just launched a melamine plate for the whole children's menu which is in line with the design of the children's menu."

"But there will be stock of the old red plate in circulation until they break. No plan to change from the standard blue patterned plate any time soon."
