One of the best rated Wetherspoons is in Merseyside

A Wetherspoons pub in Merseyside is ranked among the best in the country.

The popular pub chain has more than 800 venues across the UK - including many in Merseyside. Run by Tim Martin, the chain was established in 1979 often converts closed buildings such as cinemas and banks into pubs offering affordable food and drink.

Many people will have a favourite Wetherspoons venue. Research conducted by Q.R. Code Generator analysed a list from the Wetherspoons website of 869 pubs and hotels across the UK to establish which are the best rated, using the average of excellent reviews on Google.

The Bishop Blaize in Greater Manchester topped the national list, receiving the best reviews from the public. It had a rating of 60.34% excellent reviews.

The pub is located right next to Manchester United's Old Trafford ground - as well as being nearby to Lancashire County Cricket Club. In second place is the Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate, Kent, and The Caley Picture House in Edinburgh was ranked third.

In eighth place nationally is The Prense Well in Heswall, which has received 55.41% excellent reviews, making it the highest-rated Wetherspoons in Merseyside. The large pub is found on The Mount in the Wirral town and was formerly the Exchange Bar, but it reopened as a Wetherspoons in 2022 following extensive refurbishment.

Among those praising the Prense Well on Google reviews was Alan Rawlinson, who said of his visit three months ago: "It was a Wednesday - quiet, no kids, good service it only 18 months old so still clean tidy & your feet don't stick to the carpet, another good thing is it's nice & bright"

Dennis Appleton added: "Just your typical wetherspoons. Cheap ale, cheap ok food. Friendly chatty staff. Table service using the app etc. Can't go wrong really."

Alan Whitehead described it as "one of the nicest Wetherspoons I've been in."

The Nine Arches in Newton-le-Willows was the second-highest rated Wetherspoons in Merseyside and was ranked 21st nationally.

However, the Wetherspoons pub with the fewest excellent-rated reviews was Birmingham's The Atrium, with 201.9%.
