What the weather will be like near you this week
Parts of England could be hit with flooding on Monday as heavy downpours made the UK's monthly rainfall soar way above average levels.
The Met Office said the UK has had 126mm of rainfall so far in February, 131% more than the average amount of rain for the month.
For England, it said the 117.6mm of rainfall so far in February is 178% more than average.
Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge told Yahoo News UK that this February is "unlikely" to be the wettest since its rainfall records began in 1836, even though there will be an extra day for the leap year.
The current record holder is February 2020, when 213.7mm on average fell across the UK.
"It is unlikely that any UK or country records will be challenged," said Madge, who said February 2024 could fall in the top 20 wettest every Februarys.
However, he did say that some local areas could see their highest ever levels of February rainfall.
According to the Environment Agency, there are 57 flood warnings in place across England as of lunchtime on Monday, meaning flooding is expected, and an additional 158 flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible.
