PMQs are not normally known for its laughs, but Theresa May has changed all that.

The Prime Minister’s pantomime villain, shoulder-shaking hysteria during a clash with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn before Wednesday’s Budget has set social media alight.

Twitter users compared the British leader, who has previously attracted attention for her outlandish fashion choices, to a “maniac”, the “devil” and even former Tory PM Ted Heath.

Others said it was set to become the political meme of the year.

What made her laugh so much is not clear, especially considering she was being grilled by Mr Corbyn on the seemingly not-too-funny subject of local government funding.

Her laughing even prompted her Chancellor, Philip Hammond, another politician not exactly known for his humour, to raise a small giggle.

Her shoulder-shaking was immediately met with incredulity and terror on Twitter.

Mrs May pushed her head back and laughed uncontrollably after the Labour leader delivered this zinger: “The text Mr. Speaker said there was a memorandum of understanding, the PM said there was no deal, she is now unclear about this.”

He then added: “Did she actually know what arrangement was made with Surrey County Council? She’s unkeen on answering questions on that.”

Others may not find that funny but the Prime Minister seemed to find it hilarious.

The normally sombre-looking leader could not control her amusement – or her shoulders – as she giggled and shook for several seconds.

Once she regained control of her shoulders she rebuked Mr Corbyn, claiming there was no such deal and then added that his party were “unfit to govern”.
