What to watch on TV this weekend: 12-14 February, 2021

This weekend on the small screen, viewers will finally see one celebrity crowned the winner of The Masked Singer's second season as the three remaining stars are unveiled on Saturday.

But if stars dressing up in ridiculous costumes while Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross try and guess who they are isn't to everyone's tastes then there's plenty on, including Oscar winning film The Deer Hunter which is also being aired at the weekend too.

Elsewhere, BBC drama The Serpent is coming to an end while Channel 4 It's a Sin also sets about wrapping up with its penultimate episode.

Friday

It's a Sin - 9pm - Channel 4

Russell T Davies' drama centred on a group of friends during the AIDs crisis airs its penultimate episode tonight.

For those who have stuck to viewing it week by week instead of heading to All4 to watch, it's another emotional episode as Ritchie (Olly Alexander) grapples with some stark truths as he goes home to the Isle of Wight while Jill (Lydia West) is among those protesting against the government's mishandling of the crisis.

The insightful series has been a major talking point of late and for good reason as a necessary but heart wrenching watch dramatising real events of lives lost and silence breeding stigma.

The Graham Norton Show - 10.45pm - BBC One

Graham Norton's guest line-up this week includes Daniel Kaluuya, Sienna Miller, Mayim Balik and Adrian Lester.

Kaluuya's appearance comes as he stars as Fred Hampton in new biographical drama Judas and the Black Messiah, which has won rave reviews and earned the actor nods for Best Supporting actor at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards.

Norton's funny but laidback presenting style, even with the filming challenges COVID has brought with it, never fails so the show is always one to watch.

Saturday

Celebrity Catchphrase - 6pm - ITV

Vick Hope, Ranvir Singh and Iain Stirling are the celebs stepping up to win money for charity on Celebrity Catchphrase this weekend.

Stephen Mulhern and Mr Chips are on hand to help them out as they say what they see, or at least try to.

It's classic shout-at-your-telly programming that never misses.

The Masked Singer - 7pm - ITV

It's the grand final of The Masked Singer's second season on Saturday as Sausage, Badger and Robin battle it out to be crowned the winner.

The ridiculous family friendly show has unmasked some impressive stars the series including Mel B, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Sir Lenny Henry but there are still some question marks surrounding the final three.

Could Joss Stone be masquerading as a Sausage? And is it really Ne-Yo behind Badger? Plenty of fans seem to think so but you'll have to tune in to find out and if you can resist chanting 'Take it off!' along with the audience when the stars must reveal themselves.

The Deer Hunter - 10pm - BBC Two

At three hours long, The Deer Hunter isn't for the faint hearted but the 1978 war epic is acclaimed for a reason.

Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and John Savage star in the drama that charts the lives of three steelworkers whose lives are changed after fighting in the Vietnam War.

The film won Best Picture at the 1979 Academy Awards and also marked the first of many Oscar nominations for Meryl Streep.

Sunday

Dancing on Ice - 7pm - ITV

This year's Dancing on Ice has been a rocky one as stars seem to pulling out left, right and centre - partly thanks to the coronavirus.

Four contestants have had to drop out this year due to either a positive test or injury and it has run out of replacement stars following the late introduction of comedian Matt Richardson and Olympic gymnast Amy Tinkler.

Nonetheless, of a Sunday evening it's the perfect blend of flashy entertainment and genuine risk ahead to settle down in front of.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? - 8pm - ITV

Now into its 36th series, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? puts contestants through their paces in the hopes of winning the top prize.

The coronavirus pandemic means it's had to be filmed without a live studio audience, thus replacing the Ask the Audience lifeline with another Phone a Friend.

Clarkson's presenting style continues to be much more hostile than Chris Tarrant's ever was which might not be everyone's cup of tea but the quiz itself is a tried and tested winning formula.

The Serpent - 9pm - BBC One

The Serpent reaches the end of the road with its last episode set to air on Sunday as the net closes in on Charles (Tahar Rahim) and Marie-Andree (Jenna Coleman) in a dramatic climax.

Based on a real story, it dramatises the crimes of serial killer Charles Sobhraj who murdered young tourists in Asia in the 1970s.

All eight episodes have been available to watch since New Year's Day so the final instalment may be old news to some but it does mean there's time to catch up if you want to watch it all wrapped up Sunday.
