Where to find exclusive vinyl in Liverpool for Record Store Day

Record Store Day is a special day dedicated to highlighting independent music stores.

The annual event takes place on April 20 and sees record stores provide exclusive vinyl for music lovers they can't find anywhere else for a limited release period.

Businesses across the city are getting in on the action from new ventures in the Baltic Triangle to some of the longest-standing record shops around.

Below are some places you can check out for Record Store Day 2024.

81 Renshaw

Home to the music magazine Merseybeat, this record store is no stranger to the rich history of music from Liverpool. Known for its eye-catching Elvis Costello mural the store stocks a variety of genres and new and collectable records. On record store day the store will have exclusive items in-shop and online from the April 20 - 21.

A staff member from 81 Renshaw said: "It's a nice day, everyone chats, there's a buzz."

Another positive about the day is it gives stores' a “boost financially” as it brings new customers, who most of the time become repeat customers.

Jacaranda Records

Located in the city centre, this store offers pre-loved and new vinyls. With genres ranging from classic rock to Afrobeat to experimental, visit the Jacaranda record website and enter what releases you want to see this record store day, and three lucky winners will be chosen to win a limited edition of RSD 24 slip mat.

Defend Vinyl

Established in 2016 and selling records ranging from indie, emo, punk, soul, hip hop and classics new and used, all second-hand stock is professionally cleaned, and this service is available to you in-store with a small fee. Defend Vinyl has been part of Record Store Day since 2018.

Dig Vinyl

Dig has two stores stocking vinyls, CDs, cassettes, memorabilia, and buy and sell records. The stores are taking part in record store day and will be stocking RSD releases, on a first come first served basis. You can get 10% off your first order over £30 in both stores and online.

The Musical Box

Thought to be Liverpool's oldest surviving record shop, this family-run record store dates back to 1947. These four generations of history are showcased in the top floor of the store which has been turned into a museum. Showcasing old log books that date back to the 50s, and showing the sales of Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane by the Beatles and old Liverpool independent record shop sleeves.

Skeleton Records

Established in 1972, and located in Birkenhead with its eye-catching entrance of a skeleton, catering to all different music tastes from indie, jazz and metal. Stocking 200,000 new and second-hand vinyls. This store is every music lover's dream. They also sell DVDs, CDs and music videos.

Dead Air Records

Offering a carefully curated selection of new and second-hand records across a variety of genres including blues, reggae, dance, electronic soul and much more. The record store pays tribute to the local music scene and hosts performances from up-and-coming artists.

There's also an in-house expert who will assess the condition of all used vinyl you might want to sell.

Good Time Records

Opened in 2002, Good Time Records sells and buys CDs and vinyls. Have a browse through the many bins they have in store as they have thousands of albums to choose from ranging from all genres.

Probe Records

Located next to the Bluecoat contemporary arts centre, this store looks small but once you go it's jam packed with new and rare vinyl LPs and singles, CDs and also T-shirts.

Allkinds

Allkinds sells vinyl records, audio and sci-fi memorabilia. Known for its inviting and friendly service.
