Executive producer Michael Hirschorn recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted the docuseries to explore fandom loyalty and toxicity, and how trolling on social media “extends into real life in profound and unsettling ways.”

Fallen Idols includes interviews with the three women who have come forward with rape allegations against Nick Carter: Ashley Repp, Shannon “Shay” Ruth and Melissa Schuman of the girl group Dream. Kaya Jones, Nick Carter’s ex-girlfriend who publicly supported Schuman, also appears in the docuseries. The series also features Aaron Carter’s ex-girlfriend, Lina Valentina; and his ex-fiancée, Melanie Martin, with whom he had a child before his death in November 2022.

Nick Carter has denied the sexual allegations. His attorney, Dale Hayes, Jr., said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “These are exactly the same outrageous claims that led us to sue this gang of conspirators. Those cases are working their way through the legal system now, and, based on both the initial court rulings and the overwhelming evidence, we have every belief that we will prevail and hold them accountable for spreading these falsehoods.”
