This is why the Coke at McDonald's tastes so great

It might have something to do with the fact that people normally eat McDonald's when they're either drunk or hungover, but there's nothing better than ordering a large icy Coke with your Big Mac and chips (ahem, and extra nuggets).

You may be imagining it, but if you don't get the same shiver of 'GOD, that's great' when you start sipping on a Coca-Cola from Burger King or Subway... there may be a reason. It's never been explained... up until now that is, when we stumbled upon a tiny corner of the internet which does just that.

According to Spoon University, there are five key reasons McDonald's Coke tastes better. FIVE. They are: the way it's transported, the way it's filtered, the temperature it's kept at, what they do to the syrup, and how they serve it. Who knew McD's put so much thought into a simple serving of Coke?

Rather than having their Coca Cola delivered in plastic bags (they're no tight arses), Maccies apparently prefers to have it travel in stainless steel containers, darling. Apparently, this helps preserve the ingredients better, resulting in a fresher taste.

As well as that, the precious people over at McDonald's attain a "gold standard" of drink serving by filtering their water. No limescale in your Coke, then, which is always a plus.

The fast food giant also takes great care and consideration when it comes to the temperature they store their fizzy drinks at; Spoon University explains how they use "an insulated tube that runs from the refrigerator unit in the back, all the way to the soda fountain.

"The water runs through this tube constantly in order to maintain a temperature just above freezing. The cold temperature is essential for achieving peak C02 levels. This not only ensures the crisp, bubbly taste of your Coke, but also means that the carbonation will last longer than other restaurants."

It's like a science lesson in how to serve Coca-Cola, and we're learning a lot.

The syrup used to blend with the filtered water (don't forget it's filtered) is also cooled to be at a low temperature, because they're really big on it being served cold (don't forget they like it cold).

And there's one final piece to the 'Perfect McDonald's Coke' puzzle, apparently: the perfect straw. If you're particularly observant, you'll have noticed that Maccie's straws are wider than most other establishments'. This, according to their website, is "so all that Coke taste can hit all your taste buds".

You'll never think about your cup of Coke in the same way again, will you?
