Why does Tom Hanks support Aston Villa? Hollywood star fires Liverpool message at Villa Park

Tom Hanks has travelled across the pond to watch his beloved Aston Villa take on Liverpool in the Premier League this evening.

He arrived at Villa Park some 90 minutes before kick-off in what is a rare appearance for him at B6. The Hollywood star spoke to supporters pitchside in the lead up to the game.

“Every time you read about other media in the States, it’s always about the other teams," he said."You get the ones in red. But it’s always good to read about Aston Villa.

“I was here a year ago for the first time and it was a magical thing. Whenever I’m in the UK, I always check my schedule to see if I can make it to Villa Park and it worked out that I can watch Villa make history tonight. Up the Villa!”

Villa could secure qualification for the Champions League this evening. A win would ensure Tottenham can't catch them with two games remaining against Man City and Sheffield United.

Unai Emery's side will face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season, but will want to have wrapped up fourth place by the weekend.
