Hull City may still be digesting the disappointment of missing out on the Championship's top six, but head coach Liam Rosenior feels the season should be viewed as a success in terms of the progress made on and off the pitch.

Twelve months ago, City finished the season with a 0-0 draw at Luton Town which saw them sign off in 15th place. But despite their 1-0 loss at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon, Rosenior's side ended the campaign in seventh, three points adrift of the play-offs.

Rosenior feels the club has been put firmly back on the map this season, with the likes of Jaden Philogene, Tyler Morton, Liam Delap and Fabio Carvalho all coming in and excelling throughout an exciting campaign, albeit, one that ultimately ended up in big disappointment.

"I think the club is back on the map," Rosenior told Hull Live. "I know it's disappointing that we didn't quite make the top six, but this club now is a respected force in the Championship and that's not me trying to talk myself up or talk the staff up, Acun or Tan. It's the truth. From where we were 18 months ago to where we are now, the building blocks are in place for us to be a successful club in the long term and that's something that can't be forgotten in this process."

Rosenior, in his first full season as City boss, feels his side just made too many naïve errors throughout the campaign which ultimately saw them fall just short. But he was full of praise for a group of players that gave him everything.

"They gave me everything this year and over the season," he said. "There's a reason we didn't make the play-offs, we just didn't quite take up the advantage of the many moments and advantages that we had through the season and to be honest, there's part of me that not expected it, but I knew that would be a team that has to learn on the job.

"I've said it all along, we're so young. Sometimes when you watch us play, we make so many young decisions, but we're so fearless in the way that we play. It's our biggest strength and is sometimes our biggest weakness. What we have to do is take stock, analyse, move forward and make sure we come back stronger next year."
