So, why is Sharon Osbourne actually leaving Celebrity Big Brother early?

Celebrity Big Brother kicked off its new season after a six year hiatus earlier this week (4 March), bringing us a brand new group of celebrity housemates set to live together for three whole weeks, taking part in challenges, getting to know each other and hopefully causing some drama. Among them is former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne, but plot twist, Sharon is only staying for one week, so why is she leaving the series early?

When the series began on Monday evening, Sharon was the first housemate to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house, but before she entered the house, series hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best revealed Sharon would be the series first ever lodger, only staying in the house for a few days. In those short few days, she's sure to make an impact though, having already been tasked with putting three of her fellow housemates up for potential eviction later this week.

So why is Sharon depriving viewers of her presence on the show? And what actually is a CBB lodger? Here's the lowdown.

Why is Sharon Osbourne leaving Celebrity Big Brother early?

Ahead of entering the Celebrity Big Brother house Sharon revealed the heartbreaking reason why she was only going into the house for a short period.

Sharon said she doesn't want to do the full duration of the show, as she doesn't want to be away from her family for an extended period of time.

Sharon's husband Ozzy Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease five years ago, and struggles with mobility and chronic pain. For Sharon, she didn't want to be away from her husband for a number of weeks.

"I don’t want to stay away from Ozzy for too long," she told The Sun. "We’re so close as a family, I don’t think I have ever gone a week without talking to any of them, ever. Through fights, feuds, everything. We still talk and this will definitely be the longest. I don’t know how I’m going to cope."

Well now it all makes sense.

What is a Celebrity Big Brother lodger?

New series, new concept, and for the 2024 Celebrity Big Brother series we have the first ever lodger in the form of Sharon Osbourne.

As part of being a lodger Sharon will only stay in the house for a limited amount of time as she didn't want to be away from her family for too long.

The best part of being a lodger is undeniably the fact that Sharon gets her own room as seen in episode two.

It's not known if the lodger will be a permanent fixture on every season of the show, but we're curious to see how this plays out.
