Why Sharon Stone Says She Believes Kevin Spacey 'Should Be Allowed to Come Back' After Abuse Allegations

Stone thinks "there’s so much hatred for" Spacey "because in his case," the accusations were "man-on-man"

Sharon Stone is doubling down on her support of Kevin Spacey.

The actress spoke with The Hollywood Reporter for an interview published Tuesday, July 9, where she addressed some comments she previously made about Spacey, who's been accused of sexual assault.

While she didn't specify which previous comments she was referring to, Stone, 66, previously told The Telegraph in May, in part, “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will.”

In her chat with THR, Stone noted that "people are mad at me for" speaking out in defense of Spacey, 64, adding, "I said that after being in therapy for seven years, not being allowed to work, losing his home, losing everything, he should be allowed to come back."

"He’s reached out to everybody he’s offended and said he’s sorry. Kevin grabbed people by their genitals. Many people," she said. "But nobody [has publicly said] he’s raped them or forced them into a sexual encounter."

The Basic Instinct star added that she believes "there’s so much hatred for" the House of Cards alum "because in his case it was man-on-man."

"That’s why he’s not allowed to come back. Because he offended men," she said. "But can I tell you how many men have grabbed my genitals in my lifetime? A lot more than Kevin Spacey has grabbed men’s genitals. And none of them has ever apologized to me."

Stone went on to say that she herself has "been canceled left and right," but she's now "back in fashion again."

"Here’s the thing — I’m a dark horse. I love dark horses. I don’t want to be a white horse or wear a white hat," she told the outlet. "And I get that not everybody thinks I’m a good person. I get that people think I’m difficult."

"But I’m the person who wants to make sure you have water to drink and wants to make sure you have books to read and somewhere to read them," Stone added.

The first allegation against Spacey came in 2017 at the height of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and the Me Too movement. At the time, Spacey denied the allegations, and came out as gay.

The two-time Oscar winner's career also took a turn, with him being killed off on House of Cards and edited out of All the Money in the World.

In recent years, others have accused Spacey of groping and similar acts, including the Old Vic in London finding 20 allegations of “inappropriate behavior” against the actor between 1995 and 2013.

This past May, more alleged victims, including his estranged brother, Randy, came forward in Investigation Discovery's docuseries Spacey Unmasked.

During his U.K. sexual assault trial in July 2023, Spacey said he was “crushed” by the allegations and told the court he thought he was being "romantic" and "intimate," according to BBC News.

Added the Se7en actor, "I lost my reputation, I lost everything in a matter of days," in regard to when allegations were first brought against him.

In July 2023, Spacey was found not guilty of nine counts of alleged sexual assault in London's Southwark Crown Court. Other initial charges were struck out, BBC News reported at the time.
