A grieving widower has planted four miles of sunflowers, in memory of his late wife.

The remarkable gesture was a labour of love by Don Jaquish, whose inspiring wife Babbette had set up her own cancer charity.

Despite suffering with cancer for six years, she ran Babbette’s Seeds of Hope, to raise money for cancer patients and research.

When she died, he vowed to plant four miles of sunflowers to give hope to other sufferers, fighting the same disease.

The beautiful flowers are now in bloom along Wisconsin State Road 85, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Farmer Don said: “Everyone that ever met Babbette fell in love with her. I was just lucky enough to be the guy that she fell in love with. What we had is as good as it gets.”

One of Babbette’s daughters, Jenny White, said: “I couldn’t fathom until I saw how beautiful it was.

“We wanted it to be a statement of love. It is an enormous beautiful sight. And that’s just like my mom. That’s what she did with her life.”
