Jurgen Klopp has lived in Merseyside with his wife Ulla Sandrock since taking the job as Liverpool FC boss back in 2015.

The 56-year-old lives in a house in Formby that once belonged to Steven Gerrard. After he prepares to step down as Liverpool manager today, it seems likely the popular football boss and his wife will soon leave the region.

But the couple has had a lasting impact on Formby, with Klopp regularly spotted at local pubs in the area, offering to help teams with their quiz answers.

There was also a remarkable act of kindness performed by Ulla during the covid pandemic that is not likely to be forgotten any time soon. Back in April 2020, Klopp's wife handed out £1,000 worth of food vouchers to supermarket staff as a "thank you" for working on the frontline.

The touching random act of kindness happened when Ulla went into Waitrose in Formby and suddenly distributed the gifts. The ECHO understands 20 separate £50 vouchers for the store were individually passed by the Liverpool manager's wife to those on the shop floor at the time.

But it was described as "amazing" by those close to Waitrose in Formby who thought it right it was celebrated. Later, the vouchers were collected in by management as suggestions were made to hand them out equally to all staff.

One staff member said: "This was an incredible thing to do. Typically, Ulla didn't want to make a fuss, or receive any recognition, and just wanted people working in shops to get the recognition they deserve."

A spokesman for the store told the ECHO at the time: "Our Formby team is incredibly grateful for the support and understanding shown by everyone who has visited our store, but we would always respect the privacy of our customers."
