WITH the diving season well underway, Wight Dolphins has welcomed its newest member.

Mark Plimley has completed his ocean diver course with the Island’s British Sub Aqua Club, based in Newport.

Mark started diving 25 years ago, and after a lengthy break, he attended a try dive session with Wight Dolphins earlier this year which reignited his passion for diving.

He immediately signed up for the ocean diver course which comprises a mixture of pool and local shore-based dives.

He successfully completed his qualification with a boat dive at Sun Corner, just off the Needles.

Mark now intends to develop his diving skills and has already signed up to the sports diver course.

Anyone interested in learning to dive, or who are already qualified and want to join a friendly and active club, should visit Wight Dolphins’ website here.

“Everyone was helpful and made me feel welcome,” said Mark.

“You learn at your own pace, being shown the correct and safe way to do things.

“I love the calm and quiet under the sea. With all the life down there, you are in another world with like-minded people. It’s one of the best things I’ve done.”

Wight Dolphins is running another ocean diver course in July, and regularly offers try dive sessions, designed as an introduction to diving in a pool, among other BSAC courses.

The club regularly arranges dives around the Island’s shorelines and on the mainland, and has its own club boat.
