Wild Waves Crash Into Buildings on Capitola Beach During High Tide

The city of Capitola declared a state of emergency after a storm caused damage throughout California’s Central Coast on Thursday, January 5.

Footage captured by John (JT) Service shows waves crashing into buildings on Capitola Beach during a period of high tide.

In a storm update posted on the city’s Facebook page, officials said that Capitola saw a 5.6-foot high tide.

The government of Santa Cruz County reported heavy damage to the Capitola pier and urged people to avoid the coast.
