Wildfires 'Smother' Western Canada in Smoke

Satellite footage shows wildfires burning in northeastern British Columbia July 8 into July 9, “smothering” western Canada in smoke, the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) said.

BC Wildfire Service reported dozens of “out of control” wildfires on Tuesday as heat warnings remained in effect across the province.

Images released by CIRA show the wildfires showing up on satellite in the northeastern part of the province near its border with Alberta.

According to Environment Canada, air quality was of high risk in parts of the province on Tuesday and was not expected to improve overnight. Credit: CSU/CIRA & NOAA via Storyful
