Celtic have been offered the chance to sign former Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.

The midfield star played under Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers when he was boss at the King Power Stadium. And the champions were made aware on Monday night that Ndidi would be interested in moving to Glasgow to team up with Rodgers again.

Ndidi’s impressive displays in the Premier League once saw him linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid but after helping the Foxes gain promotion back to the top division he has been released. Signed by Leicester from Genk in 2017, Ndidi’s best football was played under the Northern Irishman. In April 2023, in an interview with the Leicester Mercury, Rodgers lauded Ndidi saying: “He’s obviously a player that’s got the good athletic ability and works very hard.

“I always have that sort of player, a clear, controlling player in the game. Sometimes, they’re a defensive type like him that can really press the game and play simply, or sometimes, it’s a more creative player, a playmaker from behind. He’s got so much talent and been very impressive. He covers the ground so fast. His anticipation is very good, he reads the game, smells the danger, and to have that type of player in there, it’s very important.”

Wages could be the major stumbling block to any deal and with Premier League clubs including Everton circling, Celtic may not be able to match the millions on offer across the border. But the chance of Champions League football could be a carrot for the Nigerian.

Celtic have previously monitored his situation and may be willing to push the boat out for a man who was once valued at at £52m by Leicester back in 2021. As recently as 2023, there were reports Real Madrid were eyeing the midfielder for a holding role, while United had shown long-term interest in recruiting the Nigerian when he was showcasing his skills in the Premier League.
