Castle Rock star Ruby Cruz will play lead character Kit in the Disney+ revival of Willow.

This casting update arrives via Deadline, which reports Cruz has replaced Cailee Spaeny in the role after some behind-the-scenes shuffling.

Apparently, this sequel series to Ron Howard's 1988 fantasy flick (which'll shoot in Wales very soon) is set to revolve around a mission to save a kidnapped prince.

On this quest we have Dove (played by Ellie Bamber), an "unassuming kitchen maid" who happens to be the 'chosen one', alongside Kit and her best bud Jade (Erin Kellyman).

"Destined to become queen" one day, Kit has a particularly emotional stake in this case as the prince is her twin brother.

Elsewhere, newly-appointed Willow director Jonathan Entwistle previously shared his thoughts on shepherding this story to the screen.

"With its epic world of swords, sorcery and adventure, Willow captivated and influenced so many.

"I'm excited to be going on this journey and working with Jon [Kasdan] and Wendy [Mericle] to create something that is both deeply rooted in that original film and also a fresh, funny and charming addition to the beloved story. To be able to play within the world so painstakingly crafted by Ron back in '88 is a dream come true for me."
