There are more than 10,000 animals to discover at London Zoo and it's set right in the heart of the capital in leafy Regent's Park, making it an oasis of calm that's really easy to reach. The zoo's landmark walk-through Monkey Valley soars an incredible 80ft above the London skyline and has a 30ft waterfall and peaceful lagoon where you can watch colobus monkeys leaping and swinging in their tree-top inspired habitat.

There's also a Bird Safari, a Gorilla Kingdom, a Komodo Dragon House, a Penguin Beach, a Tiger Territory and the Land of the Lions, which is home to new cubs. Conservation is at the heart of this zoo and you can learn about what's being done to help protect these species in the future.

Find out more via the London Northwestern Railway website and the London Zoo websites. Advance tickets to London start from as little as £9 one way from Birmingham and you can take up to four kids for just £1 each with a London Family Travelcard. This gives you off-peak, unlimited travel on the London underground too.

And, once there, you can get 241 discounts on great family attractions like the London Eye, Madame Tussauds and the Sea Life Centre.
