Who will win Rangers vs Hearts? Our writers make their predictions for Scottish Cup semi showdown at Hampden

With Celtic awaiting in the Final, all eyes are back on Hampden for the second Scottish Cup semi.

Either Rangers or Hearts will be the opposition for the Hoops on Saturday May 25. The Jambos are safe in the knowledge that they have European group stage football guaranteed after Celtic's win - provided they don't suffer an almighty collapse in their remaining five league games and throw away third place.

There's a different pressure on Philippe Clement. He's already claimed the first trophy of the season after beating the Pittodrie side in the League Cup final back in December. But after a double blow this week in the Premiership title race handed the advantage to Celtic, anything less than lifting the Scottish Cup will be seen as unacceptable by fans, so reaching not even reaching the final is unthinkable in Govan. At least one more trophy will be expected, especially after Celtic completed the domestic clean sweep last term.

Here the Record Sport writers predict the outcome.

Hearts will never have a better chance of taking out one of the Old Firm to book up a shot at the other one in the final. Rangers look disjointed and completely dispirited and the last thing they need right now is to come face-to-face with the third best side in the country with another piece of silverware on the line. This one might have to be settled from the penalty spot.

Hearts will surely fancy their chances more now than when the draw was initially made. Rangers go into this match out of form. I can see Rangers grinding out a win but they will be made to fight all the way.. If Hearts were to get the first goal then that could be a game changer.

It’s no surprise to see the 10/1 odds available on the Jambos has dropped dramatically since Rangers’ drab Dens Park draw and they won’t have a better chance to end that astonishing run of having never beaten the Light Blues at Hamden, albeit they might need more than the regulation 90 minutes.

Rangers 1 Hearts 2 (after extra time)

Fraser Wilson

This one is on a knife-edge despite what the bookies are saying. Hearts will give it a right go after the powderpuff effort in the last semi final clash between the sides. But even though Rangers have stuttered badly in recent weeks they just seem to have Hearts’ number. Philippe Clement needs a good win and I reckon he’ll get it. But it will be very close.

Rangers 2 Hearts 1

Michael Gannon

The heat is on Gers after the last week and they could be put through the wringer here. Hearts will be positive and pose problems but Rangers can scrape through.

Rangers 2 Hearts 2 (Rangers to win on penalties)

Ross Pilcher

It’s been a bad week for Rangers, which maybe makes this the worst possible time for Hearts to play them. The Jambos have been second best in each meeting with the Light Blues this term and have never beaten them at Hampden. They’ll make a game of it, unlike the 5-0 gubbing at Ibrox last time out, but Rangers MUST get the job done and will just edge it.
