Wind-Driven Rain Lashes Des Moines

Weather warnings were in effect for parts of Iowa as severe storms packing “excessive” rainfall threatened the region on Tuesday, May 21, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned.

According to the NWS, 38 Iowa counties were under a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 pm on Tuesday. Flash flooding would be possible through Tuesday evening, with as much as 5 inches of rain having already fallen in the area as of 4:20 am, the weather service said.
