The winners and losers in Mid Cheshire on a dramatic general election night

LABOUR romped home in Mid Cheshire with more than twice the votes of the next highest scoring candidate.

Former Cheshire West and Chester councillor, Andrew Cooper, will be heading to Westminster to be the voice of the constituency in parliament, having taken a whopping 18,457 votes.

Next came Charles Fifield for the Conservatives, with 9,530 votes, followed by Reform UK candidate, Emma Guy, with 7,967.

In fourth place came Jack Price-Harbach of the Liberal democrats, with 2,465, followed by the Green Party’s Mark Green on 1,967.

The two independent candidates, Helen Clawson and Stella Mellor, came in at six and seventh, with 850 and 273 votes respectively.

Voter turn-out in Mid Cheshire was 59.14 per cent, which is somewhat lower than many pollsters predicted.

Andrew’s win for Labour mirrored the national picture, as became clear at around 5.10am when the overall election was declared in favour of Labour.

This makes Sir Kier Starmer the next prime minister of the United Kingdom, and he will be heading to Buckingham Palace tomorrow where the King will ask him to form a government in his name.

The Mid Cheshire count ran later than expected, being declared at around 4.15am on Friday, July 5.
