Woman, 47, banned from four areas of Preston city centre over shoplifting

A 47-year-old woman has been banned from four areas of Preston after a shoplifting spree.

Victoria Heaton was arrested last week and charged with ten shoplifting offences from stores in and around the city centre. The prolific thief appeared at Preston Magistrates Court on Friday (April 19) and pleaded guilty to her crimes.

She was jailed for 44 weeks and given a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order. This prohibits her from entering Fishergate, Friargate, St Georges Shopping Centre or Market Place in Preston.

Heaton, of Lancaster Road North, Preston, is also banned from using threatening, abusive, or intimidating language or behaviour towards any shop employee or security staff member. Any breach of the CBO could result in a further prison sentence.

Inspector Dave Byrne from Preston Police said: "We understand the impact that anti-social behaviour and theft has on our communities and businesses. This result shows is that we will pursue offenders and robustly apply for orders which manage and prevent any future offending.

"Securing this CBO would not have been possible without the support of the public and the businesses in Preston City Centre and we will continue to work closely with them."
