POLICE have made an arrest and are appealing for witnesses to come forward amid reports of a woman exposing herself to others in an Isle of Wight town centre.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is investigating a public order incident at a pedestrian precinct in Ryde, between 12.15pm and 12.40pm on Wednesday (July 3).

Police were told a woman had been verbally abusing members of the public and lifting up her clothes, to expose herself.

Officers who attended the incident, arrested an unnamed 37-year-old woman near the Co-op, in John Street, on suspicion of a public order offence.

"We are keen to hear from any members of the public who witnessed this behaviour," a police spokesperson said.

She was also arrested on suspicion of another public order offence relating to incidents outside the King Lud pub, on Ryde Esplanade, between May 20 and June 17, together with a theft, relating to alleged unauthorised withdrawals of money, possession of cannabis and criminal damage to a police van.

The woman was bailed for all of the listed offences, with conditions not to return to the Isle of Wight while an investigation continues.
