A woman has defended her choice of using a binbag to post her old clothes in to buyers. Taking to TikTok, the woman, called Grace Robinson, uploaded a video after needing "a little rant" about complaints she claims to have seen online about Vinted parcels.

She said: "Just want to have a little rant about these people going in on people for wrapping their Vinted parcels in a binbag. Like, I don't see why I need to be spending £6 on a pack of 100 little bags to send my parcels off. I'm not selling a load of stuff for a lot of money, I'm selling things off for a few quid."

She added: "Why am I then going to spend that money I've made on just paying for stuff to wrap parcels? It doesn't make sense!"

Grace then revealed "one she made earlier" and showed the camera a neatly wrapped parcel using a binbag. It was also secured with brown packing tape.

She said: "I think it's quite neat and tidy. Let's normalise using binbags and things we already have and not just buying more stuff that we don't need."

Some TikTok users leapt to her defence, with one saying: "Bin bags are so good to use for Vinted bags! They’re study and they’re clean!" Another said: "More environmentally friendly too! I always reuse old mailers I've had stuff delivered in."

Some Vinted shoppers have gone on social media to claim their orders arrived wrapped in some unconventional materials. Some people have alleged theirs came in a cereal box while other claim theirs were delivered in crisp packets, according to a popular Reddit thread.

The buying and selling app has official guidance online about what users should do when shipping off goods to a customer. There were some specific rules to follow about the type of packaging to use.

  • Use sturdy outer packaging: Ideally, a cardboard box that fits the item’s size and weight. The box should be in good condition to protect the item from dirt and moisture during transit (i.e. avoid using regular paper bags). If an item is heavier than usual, we recommend using two or three layers of cardboard boxes.

  • Use appropriate material for inner packaging: To prevent items from touching the outer packaging and moving around, fill in the empty space. You can use bubble wrap, foam, paper, newspaper or corrugated material.

  • Use the packaging provided at your nearest locker: Whenever available, we recommend using the packaging provided by the carrier at your nearest locker. Refrain from using paper bags if you’re sending a fragile item.
