Woman dies after Torquay harbour incident

A woman has died following a medical episode in Torquay. Witnesses reported seeing a large emergency services presence on the waterfront.

On Saturday evening (May 4), emergency services rushed to Torquay harbour to reports that a woman had fallen ill. Multiple ambulances, a police car and an air ambulance were all seen in the area.

A witness said: "It was on the harbour side, two ambulances attended along with additional paramedics and air ambulance."

Police have today (May 6) confirmed that the woman, who was in her 40s, died at the scene and say her next of kin have been made aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious but a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Officers attended Beacon Quay in Torquay at around 6.45pm on Saturday to assist the air ambulance, who were in attendance following a report of a person suffering a suspected medical episode.

"A woman in her 40s was confirmed deceased at the scene. Her next of kin are aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
