A woman has pleaded guilty to drink driving offences after she was caught for being more than four times over the limit near a school in Tamworth. Amanda Garland, aged 47, from Raygill, appeared at Cannock Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to drink driving.

She was stopped by police in February this year after people on Fossdale Road, Stonydelph, spotted her getting out of her car and being unsteady on her feet.

Police referenced how the location is on the same road as Three Peaks Primary Academy and barely a minute away from the nearby Stoneydelph Primary School in Crowden Road.

Garland initially refused to provide a breath test even though police found a bottle of wine in her bag. The 47-year-old then provided a positive breath test of 143 – more than four times the legal drink drive limit of 35.

Garland is due to be sentenced on June 27 at Cannock Magistrates’ Court.

PC Alex Skinner, who dealt with the case, said on her: “Drink and drug driving can have devastating consequences on people’s lives.

"Those who ignore the law and put themselves and others in danger will be targeted as we continue to make our roads as safe as possible. Our message is simple: If you’re not fit to drive, don’t.”
