Woman found dead at bottom of Exmouth cliffs

A cause of death is yet to be established following the death of a 65-year-old Exmouth woman who was found passed away on the beach at the bottom of cliffs at Orcombe Point. Emergency services, including Devon and Cornwall Police and HM Coastguard, were called to the location on May 4, 2024.

An inquest opened into the death last week and the woman has been identified as being Jane Sibley who was born in Weybridge and lived in the town in Lawn Road. She was said to be divorced and a carer by occupation.

Senior coroner Philip Spinney said: "The circumstances are that this 65-year-old lady was confirmed dead on a beach at the bottom of cliffs at Orcombe Point. The precise cause of death is yet to be established."

Police were called at 8.30am on May 4 following reports of a concern for the welfare of a woman. Following her death, police confirmed her next of kin had been informed and the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

A full inquest will be held at a later yet to be confirmed date.
