A woman is dead following a house fire in Stephenville Crossing early Friday morning.

Police from the RCMP detachment in Bay St. George arrived at Seal Cove Road around 3:30 a.m. to find a house fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters entered the home and found the woman's body inside.

The woman was in her 80s, according to the RCMP.

The province's fire services division has dispatched an investigator, who will be on scene throughout Monday to look into the cause of the fire.
