Woman left with horrific injuries after dog sank teeth into arm outside Tesco Express

A woman has been left with horrific injuries after a dog charged at her outside a Tesco Express and sank its teeth into her arm.

Aysha Rose, 30, was walking her own dog with her partner along Livesey Branch Road in Blackburn, on the evening of Sunday, June 2, LancsLive reports. As they approached the convenience store on their route, another dog walker appeared a few feet in front of them.

She told LancsLive she believes they were walking a Staffordshire Bull Terrier with a slip lead. And then the unthinkable happened.

"It came running towards us and my boyfriend picked our dog up," Aysha told LancsLive. "I can't remember anything that happened after that point because I think my brain has blocked it out."

Although she doesn't remember much of the ordeal, Aysha recalls some parts of the incident when the dog attacked her right arm.

"The dog latched onto my arm," she added. "Me, my boyfriend and the owner were trying to pull the dog off but it was latched on.

"It did eventually let go, but even after it let go we couldn't get control of it. It was still chasing us basically and it chased my boyfriend into the garden of a nearby house.

"Then luckily a woman pulled up and told us to get in the car to get away from the dog." After being rescued, Aysha had to visit Royal Blackburn Hospital due to the extent of the injuries on her arm, where she was told by medical professionals her bite was "one of the worst" they'd seen.

She said: "I had a jumper on and my arm went numb when it was happening, so I didn't really notice the extent of the damage until I got in this woman's car. I lifted my sleeve up and had a big chunk of my arm missing, you could see muscle and the tendons underneath.

"Luckily at the time, a Patient Transport ambulance was driving past, they stopped, looked at it and put a bandage on it. They said I needed to go to A&E."

Aysha found out the injuries hadn't gone as far as her bone, but was sent to Royal Preston Hospital for reconstructive surgery. In some good news, she found out there was no long-term lasting damage to her arm and only needed one surgery in order to fix her injuries.

Talking about her thoughts moving on from the incident, Aysha said: "Obviously I'm a bit shaken up and I haven't been out to walk my dog since. I can't really use my right arm properly, so that probably wouldn't be a good idea to go out with one arm.

"Feeling quite scared to go out again to be honest."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary said: "We were called on 2nd June at 5:30pm to reports of a dog attacking a woman outside Tesco on Livesey Branch Road in Blackburn. The woman was taken to hospital. Enquiries are ongoing."
